Livue Source and H264 Library

June 25th, 2011 § 4 comments § permalink

I am now licensing the H264 library and the source code for Livu.

The H264 library allows you to stream an AVC bitstream out to a server. It delivers NAL units to your code along with the sampled time stamps. This allows you to sync it with an audio stream. For example an AAC stream from CoreAudio. The library uses the native hardware on the iOS device. Thus it is power efficient. The Livu Source code includes a license to the H264 library. For the most part the source provides documentation on how to use the library along with an AAC stream.

If you are familiar with streaming media then the library is your best bet. If not then the Livu source would help you get video streaming into your app as quickly as possible.

Livu Update Soon

June 2nd, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

I have run into some issues with bandwidth calculation, and also found a few issues with the AVC engine.  I will hopefully be releasing an update next week. I only have a few decisions to make with regard to UDP/TCP. I would like to change the UI, but I am not sure if I will have time. The next version will support

  • Video streams at 192×144, 320×240, 358×240, 352×240, 352×288, 480×360, 640×360, 640×480
  • UPD / TCP streaming
  • Key frame interval setting
  • Video frame rate setting
  • User management of video bitrate
  • Audio only*

* I will try to put this in but it may not make the cut.

Realtime Video

I have completed my AVC engine that will stream in realtime. My solution does not use any third party libraries, nor does it use any private API’s. It uses the encoder chip of the phone. In testing I can get 30 frames per second over a good connection. The initial release of this update will be using RTSP for streaming. A release shortly thereafter will support RTSP over TCP and RTMP. The initial release will support RTP/RTSP over UDP and TCP. At this time I am not planning on supporting RTMP in the future. Both Wowza Media Server and Red5 support RTP/RTSP.

Livu Application Relese

March 15th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

Livu is finally in the store. It has been a long 3 months putting this together. I understand the UI is not the best. I waited until the last second to get graphics done, and this turned out to be a bad decision. I have hired a graphics designer, and with a little luck will redesign the app for the next incremental release.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions or comments about the app.
